Some new fish…..

I treated myself to some new cory cats the other day.  I’ve watched as Holly @ HCA Aquatics listed young fish from her group of breeders and I finally pulled the trigger and bought a group for my fish room.

With a bit of luck this winter, I’ll have some of these beauties ready for the Swaps and Auctions next spring!

Have you noticed, that on many of the on-line fish hang-outs there seem to be forum members that their only purpose is to spew negativity and tell others that they can’t do something.  You know the type;  you can’t have that many fish, you can’t mix those fish, you can’t cycle your tank that way, you can do this and you can’t do that, blah blah blah.

Now don’t get me wrong.  I’m not talking about those people who are offering good sound advise.  I’m only talking about that group who never have anything good to offer and simply parrot something they have heard from another nay-sayer.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I can’t see where this helps new members of our hobby.  In fact I think it has just the opposite affect, and puts them off the hobby.  After all, if it’s so complicated and there are so many strict rules, what’s the fun of keeping fish??? Time for a change…..

While I’m laid-up on light-duty, I thought it might be a good time to make some changes to the website.

No more “Welcome” page.  We have the Fish Room Journal right on the front page.

I may do away with my Danionins.com website, so the stock list is going to list all of the fish in my fish room.  Clicking on the fish name will take you to a page with info about the fish and any sales info.  It’s a “work-in-progress”, so it may take some time to complete.

I will most likely add an Articles page and move the articles from the Danionins site over here as well.  I’ve got some articles on freshwater dwarf shrimp that used to be on the now defunct Arizona Inverts site.  I might resurrect those here too.

Feeling so much better

It has been a long cold winter here in central Ohio. Just about the time the weather was breaking I came down with the flu or some other nasty respiratory ailment.  Today is the first time I’ve really felt good in just over a month.

At any rate, my plans for first-of-the-year spawning projects went right out the window.  I have been wildly successful with spawning some ABN’s though.

My very good friend Bob, also a C.A.F.E. member, gave me an extra male ABN he had.  This was around the end of February.  After about 6 weeks of sweet talking one of my female ABN’s they set-up house keeping.  They seem to be a very good match as they are producing about 40 fry every 30 days now!

Even though my spawning projects have suffered, there’s been lots going on.  I’ll try to get caught up here in the next few weeks.

We had another Convention at C.A.F.E., I picked up some super cool fish at the silent auction, etc.

Be back soon!
